English ISU - Media Connection - Movie
The Movie "Platoon" by Oliver Stone is my last media connection to "The Sniper" because the movie is about the war between the Americans and the Vietnamese, a small group of American soldier go into a village and kill innocent people from Vietnam because the couldn't find the Vietnamese soldiers, then they burn down the village. I think that is a connection to the story because in the story it talks about how empty the town is and and i can imagine the town being tortured by the soldiers when they had first came for no reason at all, i can imagine the town being a mess. In the platoon a lot of the American soldiers were drafted, and some were trying to get a good education. That reminds me of the student of Dublin in "The Sniper" because he is sitting on the roof very quietly and nervous, not really aware of what is going on. I chose that picture because it shows the American soldiers harming the Vietnamese people for no reason but to find where the Vietnamese army was.

English ISU - Media Connection - Poem
"The Man he killed" by Thomas Hardy is another interesting connection to "The Sniper" because it is about killing a man you should have met, but you didn't, it is very inhumane because in the poem it says "I shot at him as he at me, and killed him in his place." and "just as I, was out of work, had sold his traps, no other reason why." I find that to be a connection because that is talking about how he just killed a man and took his belongings for extra money, he didn't care at all about how he had killed a man who may have a family, who may be family, he just did it to make some money. that point is some what opposite to the "The Sniper" because in the sniper Dublin seems very nervous and cautious about killing the man across the street, but at the same time he is being patient in order to get the kill. I chose that picture because it seems like the soldier is walking right by the dead soldier as if he doesn't evne care which relates to the poem.

English ISU - Media Conection - Song
"War" by Edwin Starr is thematically connected to "The Sniper" because in both the story and the song the inhumanity of war is shown, in the song one lyric is "War means tears, to thousands of mothers eyes, when their sons go to fight, and lose their lives". I found that one of the biggest similarities between the story and the song because in the story one soldier had killed his own brother, and you can imagine how the mother would feel about one of her children dying, and how bad the brother would feel for killing his own brother for no reason. The message of this song is that war is useless and has no reason for it to happen, war is a negative impact on the world because all it does is cause destruction to places, and harm people. That is connected in the story because in the story there are points that describe destroyed areas. I decided to use that picture in this post because that is what i can imagine the environment would be like during the story. I think that because in the story it says "machine guns and rifles broke the silence" because there is nothing going on in the city, the reason is because the war cleared out the village.

Englsih ISU - Introduction
"The Sniper" by Liam O'Flaherty is a short story about a man in war, he is a sniper in a battle with another sniper, with a small trick he manages to kill his enemy. Out of curiosity he decides to reveal his enemies identity to himself and when he looks, he finds his brother. The theme of the story is how inhumane war really is. I chose this story because I thought it would be a good choice because war is something that happens all around the world all the time, and it is a highly discussed topic. The 3 media connections i have chosen are; the song "War" by Edwin Starr because that song is about how war is good nothing but for destruction and to harm people, The poem "The Man he Killed" by Thomas Hardy because the poem is about killing a man you dont evne know, and for no reason, and "Platoon" a film by Oliver Stone because it is about the American army killing innocent Vietnamese people because they couldn't find the Vietnamese soldiers.
